上海世博会中心绿地位于世博园的核心区域，总面积约42ha，除去世博中心用地和演艺中心用地，绿地面积约为29ha。在世博会期间，中心绿地是世博园中最主要的公共空间之一，承担着各种庆典、表演和展览等活动，同时也是游客集散，游览、休闲、娱乐的主要场所。世博会结束后，中心绿地是上海市最重要的城市公共空间之一，是黄浦江滨水绿地的重要的节点，主要功能是市民和游客游览、休闲、健身等。

Expo 2010 Shanghai China Central Green is located in the coral area of Shanghai Expo Park. The total area of Central Green, with Expo Center and Expo Performance Center included, is about 42ha. During the Expo, Central Green is one of the most important public spaces. It not only carries out a variety of events such as celebrations, performances and exhibitions, but also functions as a place for visitors’ gathering, sightseeing, leisure and entertainment. After the Expo, the Central Green will be transformed into the most important urban open space and one of attractive parts of Huangpujiang Riverside green belt.

中心绿地原有场地上是工业用地，包括工厂、仓库和码头。根据世博园的规划，场地上的建筑都将拆除。中心绿地面积不大，但涉及问题非常复杂和综合，包括世博会期间人流的组织与集散，黄浦江的防洪体系的构建，场地的生态修复，工业遗存的保留与取舍等。这些技术问题的处理尽管复杂，但并不是难题。最具挑战性的问题是在这样重要的世界性的庆典和博览会的中心，怎样体现中国的精神与文化，怎样使中心绿地具有中国和上海所特有的景观与文化色彩。

The existing site conditions are for industrial use, including factories, warehouses and docks. According to Expo Shanghai Master Plan, all the industrial buildings on the site will be removed. The Central Green faces many challenges, such as circulation and gathering, flood control, ecological restoration, conservation and reuse of industrial remains, and so on. However, the most difficult problem is how to embody the culture and spirit of China and Shanghai in such a remarkable Expo.

我们希望设计一个具有中国精神的现代的花园绿地，它能承担起世博会会期和会后的所有功能要求，同时，它又具有中国园林的结构和品质，具有浓厚的中国花园的境界，但它又是一个全新的，展示新思想和新技术的花园。

We expect to design a contemporary green space, which will embody the Chinese spirit, meet all the functional requirements during and after Expo, represent the quality and structure of Chinese traditional garden, and at the same time, present new ideas and new technology.

设计力求构建和谐城市中的共享绿地，兼融并蓄的现代公园，并将基地的历史与现代联系起来，将不同尺度的空间联系起来，创建了一个时空转换的立体花园。

Besides that, we also aim to build it to be a harmonious contemporary park and a spatio-temporal garden, connecting the past with the present and linking different spaces.

绿地由世博轴及公共活动区、风景林带、滨江景观带三大区块有机连接。

The Central Green consists of three parts, Central Axis & Celebration Square, Woodland Park and Riverside Park.

原有大量工业建筑散布在地块上，这些将被拆除的工业建筑结构坚固，并具有独特的个性。设计中仔细调查并精心筛选了这些工业建筑中的一些墙体，将其有选择地保留下来，从而构筑了分布在整个绿地中的，由不同高度的旧工业建筑的墙垣围合的约30个空间，并将这些空间设计为不同类型的系列花园，包括了世博会花园、艺术家花园、园艺花园、娱乐花园等。这些花园具有不同的气氛，同时具有不同的使用功能。如此，中心绿地具有了中国传统园林集锦式的结构，并富于中国园林的空间意境。

A large number of industrial buildings scattered on the site, which have strong structure and unique personality. After careful investigation, some walls of these buildings are selectively retained and adaptively reused to enclose about 30 different types of gardens, such as Expo Gardens, Artist Gardens, Horticultural Gardens, Entertainment Gardens, and so on. These gardens will show different temperaments and have different functions. Thus, the Central Green,Chinese traditional garden, has a structure style of collection of specimens in spatial composition and atmosphere.

绿地中心由简洁的几何地形环绕的小尺度多层次的水面，是温馨宜人的亲水环境，也为更多的动植物提供多样化的生境。同时，它也是水体净化展示的场所。疏林草地及林荫广场区主要以自然式的栽植营造多样的景观空间，是世博轴及公共活动区、滨江景观带共有的绿色背景，也是小动物栖息的场所。

Several ponds surrounded by geometric landforms in the center of the Green, provide not only a pleasant environment for people and diverse habitats for plants and animals, but also a place for water purification. Tree-sparse grassland and tree-shadow plaza, with natural planting style, forms the green background of Central Green as well as the shelter for small animals.

滨江景观带提供了多视角观赏滨水景观的机会。广场上设置了露天的咖啡座、茶室以及各种小商亭，为市民和游客提供休息、交流和观景的场所。

In Riverside Park, people can enjoy the waterfront landscape from various visual angles. Open-air café, tea houses and a lot of kiosks on the promenade also provides comfort places for citizen and tourists’ resting, gathering and sightseeing.
